Initiated in 2003 as a grassroots community, rural development project in Tamil Nadu, SVARAM has been recognized by the UN Initiative “Music as a Global Resource” as one of its first 50 projects worldwide. The open association and team of over 85 local artisans, trainees, international volunteers and professionals has always retained its emphasis on the human element, its heritage and prospect of evolutionary change and positive progress.
The Matrimandir is an edifice of spiritual significance for practitioners of integral yoga, in the Centre of Auroville established by the Mother of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. It is called Soul of the City and is situated in a large open space called Peace.

For the world, Tibet represents a very profound source of knowledge: Auroville wants to participate in the preservation of the unique and living patrimony of Tibet. The Pavilion of Tibetan Culture started in 1968, when two young Tibetans came to visit Auroville. Two years later, the Mother invited 20 Tibetan children, under 12 years old, to come and live in Auroville.
